L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2012

The 151st Queen’s Plate, sponsored by L’Ormarins Wine Estate which ran at Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday, is all about the dress.  Blue and white to be specific. So it was no surprise that the girls epitomized the definition of style. Tess and I were in for a treat.

True to my philosophy that style needn’t cost, they each radiated glamour effortlessly by pairing an exquisite piece of indulgence with something which needn’t break the bank and voila!  fabulous was born. I have the scoop on where they shopped; you’ll be amazed.

Tres chic, Tess

Tess shimmered like an impressionist original in shades of aqua, sea mist and turquoise: dress from Obsessions, satin turquoise purse from Oh la la and cork wedge sandals from Rage all at  Canal Walk. Her secret was the vintage 50’s feather headpiece from Second Hand Rose adorned with vintage marquisette shoe clips, completing the look with delicate filigreed jewellery all scouted along Long Street antique shops. Tres chic.

Leigh worked a hot summer trend to perfection

Leigh oozed sex appeal in a navy and white bandage dress from YDE  topped with a white woven fedora from Forever New (you’ll see the hat in Carmen later in the day); the store we all wish we could visit everyday not just payday. Here’s to the coolest chick working this hot summer trend to perfection.

Lucy’s dress color was amazing. Loved how she kept her hat & sandals neutral.

Lucy bubbled all day, paying perfect tribute to her figure skimming sheath of hotness from YDE. She completed the look with matching eye-shadow – it worked brilliantly, a fabulous neutral hat from Rosenworth Design and earrings created by her fiancé. Find more pieces of his magic by Duke & Dutch here. They were as gorgeous as she is.

Bed hair, shades and a beautiful smile. Love her.

Carmen has crafted the bed hair look enviably! She contrasted the waves with a sleek navy one-shoulder shift from aptly named Revenge, dark Oakley sunglasses and full red lips. This is a backstage look one minute before curtain call at Spring / Summer Fashion Week. Spot Leigh’s hat from Forever New

Hot couple of the hour; Bjorn & Karisa

Karisa sauntered in a piece most of us could only dream of pulling off. Cream fitted shift topped with a matching chiffon gillet – beautifully buttoned down the back. Keeping her eyes neutral, her dark lips against pale skin created a look one could describe as’ English Rose with a naughty secret’. As for the cute blue hat; ‘its from a cheap accessories shop in PE’, she laughed.

Absolute elegance

Always Elegant Anine; if she weren’t so damn nice and such a good friend, I’d be green with envy every time we met. Who else can combine flapper-style frills from Revenge and a striking fascinator from Best of Asia at Canal Walk – so well? Seriously!

Dax loved us!

My dress and handbag were both imported … from China via Oh la la at Canal Walk (jeez, they made money this weekend) and the shoes walked all the way from Tessa’s closet to mine so I splurged on a navy fascinator from Accessorise. Jewellery; model’s own. ( I’ve always wanted to say that:-)

Keeping it classy like we always do

With so mush class and style in one place how could one possibly go wrong – unless you missed the blue & white brief. Spotted a woman in orange, another in a red feathered hat with pink shoes and clutch. Seriously, I would have turned around and gone straight home. But apart from our circle of fabulous-ness, in my opinion, the day belonged to the men.

Not too shabby, boys

Have no idea who they are:-)

Loved the white

What do you think?

Damn you, Variety Club!

Oh by the way, there was an actual horse race.. As Tess described it later, we only lost by one number. `We bet on 9 & 10 but 11 won’. I love my sister.

Cheers xxx

Here’s to am amazing day at the races with fabulous friends and champagne, of course. Hope to see you next year.

love & light
